The Tech Conference Show #2 - ETech 2005 Part 2
Ewan Spence and Crow continue their Podcast review of Etech with some full recordings of seminars. First up is Danny O’Brien and Merlin Manns‘ “Life Hacks Live” talk.
From The ETech 2005 Program
Based on the research into the secret habits of “overprolific alpha geeks,” last year’s popular Life Hacks talk predicted a new software field: the spread of the time and info management “power tools” hackers have learnt to build for themselves to a wider audience, who are increasingly struggling to handle the information overload that geeks have fought with for years.Join Danny O’Brien and the smash hit blog “43 Folder”’s Merlin Mann to see just how those predictions have come true on the Mac, Linux, and Windows platforms.
We’ll take a whistle-stop tour through an amazing year in this exploding field: tracking apps that merge the geek’s command-line power with GUI ease-of-use; the expansion of RSS and wiki techniques into frontline organizing apps; the spread of search and script automation onto the desktop; how plain text files are the new rock and roll.
But there’s more: with live cameo appearances of alpha geeks (and their desktops), Mann and O’Brien will demo live some more of the secret tricks that have yet to reach a wider audience, and the applications and gadgets that even the super-organized are only now getting to play with. And, once again, the duo will pinpoint the market opportunities that exist for the toolmaker who wants to reach a growing new audience for their software.

Love the recordings but the Crow noise has _got_ to go. It’s probably the most annoying thing I’ve ever heard come out of my headphones and I was about to turn off your previous etech show because of it. Other than that, keep up the good work.

Matt,
Regarding “Crow” it’s not a sound, he’s a living breathing extension of my persona in certasin circumstances. I’ll also point out that it was Mick who specifically asked for Crow to co-host Etech. Perhaps you need to meet him in person…
..in any case, thanks for the comments, and everyone we’ve two more seminars from ETech still to post over the next foprtnight or so.

You reall can’t appreciate the whole Ewan / Crow thing untill you have seen a Scotsman wearing a kilt with a stuffed toy crow walking around a conference and everybody wanting to talk to the stuffed animal…”what are we all…if not a bunch of geeks and big kids”
:)

I had the same reaction to the crow as Matt. He’s quite cute, but _way_ too loud on the recording, at least over headphones. Nearly blasted out my eardrums the first time he went off. Keep him, but maybe lower his mike a bit? Love both recordings though, they totally rock. Keep up the awesome work. I can’t wait for the next installment…
